A Look at the Cards
How to Know the Cards
There are all sorts of ways to study the cards and to be more knowledgeable of their meanings, both traditional, personal and symbolic. What follows is an assortment of my journaling that I have done with tarot.
A Look at Individual Cards in a Rambling Way~
TAROT's MAJOR ARCANA
XIII DEATH
FEY TAROT By Riccardo Minetti Artist Mara Aghem
2004 Lo Scarabeo; Italy
2004 Lo Scarabeo; Italy
This is Death, the Fey Death. The image seen here is nothing like the traditional image seen is most Tarot decks. One can hardly fear this darling being. Yet 'Death' is present in this card. We see that a chess-like game is being played and it seems that there is a 'check-mate'. The end of the game. But when one game ends, a new one begins. Death & rebirth.
Unlike 'misconceived' interpretation of death, generally promoted by movie and TV, the Death card is not specifically about death. If the card comes up in a reading it does not mean that you or anyone close to you is going to die. Of course there are exceptions here. But most times when the Death card shows up it is about change; the end of the old and the start of the new.
In this Death card there as several symbols that stand out. One is what might be an 'egg'. I see the egg representing the new aspects of the Death card. This 'egg' could also be seen as a cocoon. Within the cocoon a transformation is taking place, a change from caterpillar to butterfly. A moth or butterfly can be found in quite a few Death cards.
One thing that I do to better understand and broaden my familiarity with a tarot card is to do an interview. The interview involves creating 6, open ended questions that start with; WHO-WHAT-WHERE-WHEN-WHY-HOW
Here are some of the interviews I have done with the cards:
FEY: Queen of Swords
THE QUESTIONS~
WHY do you have a sword embossed into your forehead?
WHEN did this happen?
HOW has this effected you?
WHO has done you wrong?
WHAT actions did you take towards them?
WHERE have your travels taken you?
THE ANSWERS~
FEY: Queen of Swords
THE QUESTIONS~

WHEN did this happen?
HOW has this effected you?
WHO has done you wrong?

WHY do you have a sword embossed into your forehead?
The sword signifies my standing among the Fey. It shows the experiences I have endured to get to where I am. It is like a badge of honor, courage & knowledge that lets everyone know that I am aware of life's pains even if I am part of the privileged. I have faced life hardships and had to see my own way through them.
WHEN did this happen?
I was given the sword during my time of 'engagement'. This is the time when I had to face trying situations that tested mental endurance and quick thinking. The gem in the sword come when we are faced with the ultimate loss, the loss of a child.
HOW has this effected you?
Once I was branded with the sword, others have treated me differently.I'm treated with a sense of honor and come to me for answers. They see that I have already survived life's hardest situations and want to know what advice I might have for them.
WHO has done you wrong?
Only one has done me wrong, they betrayed me. They represented themselves as someone they where not. They pretended to be my friend and attempted to manipulate me in a way they would benefit from.
WHAT actions did you take towards them?
I cut them out of my life. I knew better, I saw them truly when they made their move to use me. I knew exactly what was going on and I dealt with it right there on the spot. They know that I saw what it was they had attempted.
WHERE have your travels taken you?
I have traveled across many barren lands and have spent many days alone, wandering the land. The villages and cities I have been to have all been in a state of turmoil. As a requirement in my time of engagement, It was my duty to live in these places and to find a resolution to the problem and see the solution through. When my time of engagement was over, my travels ended in an icy yet lively land. Where those who live here have used the land and climate to their advantage. They have adapted to the environment.

"Fool's Journey"
featuring the
Fey Tarot
A small green being crawls across the ground, from his back grows a leafy plant. This being is a special being for it is part plant and part person. The young beings name is Estis.
Estis is a curious and happy fey. He is divine and pure in his ways. He is not aware of any responsibility that he has. For Estis, when there is a call to duty he responds with a 'who me?' attitude. But Estis comes to the call, he will do and grow and give through the experience. For him, everything is new and everything is simple.
Today Estis is being called to bring healing to a world, a world that is barren & dull. As usual Estis presents that element of suprise and delight, but, as usual, he answers the call.
Estis makes his way through the vast wasteland of nothing. He is lead by a natural force that he can feel through the ground. To him it’s like following a well worn path through the forest.
Estis is guided to a large conical stone in the middle of this barren land. He stops and looks up at the tall stone. He then starts to walk around the perfectly smooth stone. The stone is large and golden in color. It looks like a giant egg buried halfway into the ground. Estis runs his fingers over the smooth surface, admiring the stones golden hue. As he does so, his fingers feel a small indent. He stops to inspect the dimple in the stone. He pokes at it a bit and right before his eyes, a hole opens up in the stone. Estis looks into the depths of the hole and sees that there are stairs that lead down into the darkness.
Estis does not know fear, it is not an emotion that the Fey are aware of.
Estis enters the stone and makes his way down the steps, also smooth golden stone. The steps make their way down in a spiral that gets larger and larger. He begins to feel a bit awkward as he leaves the surface light and air. This is not an environment that he would want to stay in for very long.
At the moment that Estis thinks that he might turn around, a light appears.
His curiousity pushes him on. As he follows the stairs the light becomes brighter and bigger.
Estis nearly trips over his own steps when the stairs suddenly come to an end. Estis finds himself standing in a grand cavern. In the center of a cavern is an hourglass, upon the hourglass sits an old wise fey writing a list of some kind. Circled close about the Wise Fey is a large Dragon. The dragon notices Estis and looks at him with a green eye. The old fey does not notice Estis arrival.
