There are many out there to choose from.
No matter what your hobbies or interests are, I’m quite certain that you can find a deck that suits your personality.
The second thing needed is an open mind. Now I don’t just mean that you have to be open to say, magic or others life-styles. You have to be open to what the cards might tell you about yourself. There will be times when they will give a message that we do not want to listen to. A sub-idea that goes along with this is personal destiny.
The general public is misinformed. They think that Tarot is strictly a fortune-telling tool and to an extent it is. The fact of the matter is that tarot is very keen at letting us know the direction that we are going in as well as what direction we can turn in order to change things. Never is the future written in stone. But the cards can give a very precise picture of futures that do come to pass. Later in my writings I will tell you about one of these accurate futures foretold in the cards.
Another aspect in the area of open minds is the way the cards will send their message. There are traditional meanings to the cards, but they are also pictures and as the old saying goes, ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’. The idea is to not just apply the traditional meanings, but to allow the imagery speak to you. When fully open, tarot will become a catalyst to the psychic abilities inherent within us all.

Explore the many spreads used to read Tarot. I got a little discouraged with the spread because it seemed that every source on tarot I referred to had different position meanings as well as the order the cards where placed. I stayed away from this spread for a long time because of this.
So this is for everyone who is a student of tarot-
I have expanded on my experience in how I finally made my way to reading and using the Celtic Cross; or CC for short.

For some I may sound redundant to all things known of the CC, but the each step in important in it's own way.

Figuring out how you want to do the CC comes from what makes sense to you logically as well as intuitively. What makes it easier to remember what each position is and in what order they are put into that position.
Also looking at the CC in pieces, like each is a little spread of it’s own and they are all put together to make a bigger spread.

My process in finding my way of reading the CC-

I typically do not use a significator. It takes a card from the deck that might need to be in a better position than in the middle of things. I know what my significator is, so it is implied.
I explain the significator because the first card is called “what covers you”. If there was a significator card in the center of the table, then this first card would cover it.

CARD 1 Covers You
Usually there is a question, the issue, this is what this card is, covers your issue. The card will show the nature of the situation.
This first position is usually the same in every version of the CC and rightly so for it is a card that meaning and position make absolute sense.
This is the "Covers You" card.

CARD 2 Crosses You
The next card is the one that sits sideways on top of card 1.
This card is called “Crosses You”.
This card represents the things that you will come across.
It may be helpful, it might be a hindrance. The choice for you is to work with what feels natural to you. For me, the left seems to be what is "Behind Me" in my past.

The thing to keep in mind when developing the way you make the CC your own-
Do you want your spread to have the past card placed on the table before the present card? or after.
To me, again, logically, my past card is put on the table before my future card.

So as you can see; I work the spread as a left to right sort of thing- just like reading a book. Therefore, the "Behind Me" card is on the left and the "Before Me" is on the right.
But the flow of your lay out may place these differently.

The next cards are ABOVE & BELOW the center cards-
What is BELOW you- what is usually below anything? The ground, the foundation, a base….
This card represents the background, something of the past and present that is the basis and root of the issue.
The foundation of the situation.

What is ABOVE you- what do you usually do for things that are above you? You reach for them, yes?
Goals are one of those things that we reach for, aim for. This card has been called aspirations-goals-aims.
It is basically what we are wanting of the situation. This card is sometimes confused with the Hopes & Fears card. What we aim for and what we hope for can sound one and the same, but there is a difference.
One is strictly a goal; the hopes are more of the actions and environment towards that goal.
Some put the goals card on the right and the future card on the top position.

An alternate meaning for the top and bottom cards is the ‘higher’ self, being the card above and the subconscious for the card below. Again what the card means in the spread is what you feel most connected to.

These 4 cards that fall in the N-S-E-W direction are to be of your own design, the order that they are in as well as the placement. You may feel more connected with the idea that the Aim/Goals card should be the 6th card and placed in the Eastern position.
Find what works for you, what feels natural, what seems logical.

CARDS 7-8-9-10
With the one/two word position ‘title’ Covers, Crosses, Above, Below;
The four cards that line the right side of the cross of the first 6 cards
starting from the bottom are:

SELF – ENVIRONMENT – HOPES & FEARS – OUTCOME

These 4 cards that run in a row on the right, starting from the bottom, can also have varied meanings such as SELF is sometimes titles ATTITUDE, or ENVIRONMENT could be OTHERS.

Some other Alternate meanings might be-
~looking for your meanings to these positions~
~feel free to make a suggestion~

So….start with two things- Find the ten card meanings that you want and will work best for you then figure out the order, the way you place your cards.. .

11:11

 			DO YOU SEE IT OFTEN?
Tales of 11:11

The legend of 11:11
By S. Maxwell

The number 11:11 specifically has made its way into the lives of many people.
Some recognize it to represent something significant, but do not know what that is,
yet they know it means something. Some will encounter the number and disregard it; to them it means nothing. There is another group of people who believe that they know what the number represents and have sent their beliefs out into the world.
Some of those thoughts; the number is a ‘gateway’ number or a function of
humanities spiritual evolution.

I fall into the category of knowing that it is significant, yet I do not know what it means. When I come across the number, I feel that it is telling me that I am doing things right in life, I’m on the right track so to speak.

I first encountered the number 1111 when I was 11. I joined a scout troop and that was our troop’s number. It meant nothing to me at the time. I am a child of the dawning of the digital age. My first digital wristwatch I got for Christmas when I was about 9 or 10. I probably saw 11:11 back then, but did not connect with it since I had no use for knowing time at that age.

About a year later, my mom told me about something that started with her fiancé.
He had gone to have brunch with his brother. While they waited for a table,
he looked at his digital watch and saw that it was 11:11. He made a comment about being ‘haunted’ by the number. His brother had a response; he too, had been seeing the number quite often. They thought it odd and left it at that. My mom’s fiancé came home that night and told my mother about the number and the conversation with his brother. That is when it all started for her, she started to see the number quite often and when she told me the story, I started to ‘recognize’ the number.
I say recognize because the number came to me before I noticed it.
I was no longer in girl scouts so I had not connected my old troop number to this yet, that would come several years later.
The number 11:11 would show itself very often. There would be times when I was in no need to know the time, yet, I was drawn to look at the clock. Some might say that it was a subconscious thing to look at the clock considering the story and the thoughts and feelings that it invoked, but try to use that logic for the times when we would be driving along the highway and a billboard clock would say 11:11, or a fight number was 11:11 or departed at 11:11. And then there was my troop number that I had before I even knew the man my mom would marry. So I feel safe in saying that this number has a major significance in my life, and the fact that other people see it just as often and then wonder about it, makes me feel safe in saying that the number has something important behind it. One could say, it’s just a number, like 3:33 or 5:55, when in reference to time, but what I have found, is that even though people do see these repeated numbers, it is 11:11 specifically that gets the most attention and is the most often seen and talked about. I have ventured into a few ‘spiritual’ communities in www world, and the number seems to be discussed more than any other multiple digit number with the possible exception of 666.
I am not surprised that the first time I ‘connected’ to 11:11 was when I was 11.
It may have been 1 year 11 months and 1 day, from that first encounter to the second,
I can’t say for sure, but it would be close to it and I would not be surprised if it worked out one way or another to make the 11:11. At this moment, I still see the number,
just recently my mother sent me an email with the time-stamp of. . . . .11:11.
I emailed her back and told her, she replied and that time stamp was 1:11, not quite the same, but it goes on. They know how to love unconditionally and with respect, honor and compassion. They understand what it means to not judge or separate themselves from those who are different. They have no barriers. The card expresses needing to find more balance in your actions & attitudes towards others. Accept all for who they are. The Earthly Fey speaks of solid foundations, things that are lasting. The Airy Fey speaks of the ever-changing.
Together they represent the need to take action, building of a solid foundation in honoring others and who they are, for everyone has their positive aspects and personal strengths. This is also changing attitudes to be more compassionate and respectful. In doing so, you open a door to a life that is filled with opportunity and real love. Love of life, love in life and love in yourself. This walking away is because one knows that what they want is not going to be any benefit in the end. It is the knowing in what is best. There are steps that need to be taken to get to the place where one needs to be. This card speaks of avoiding what is only a temporary solution.
I sense that there is some sort of difficult situation that you are dealing with and you have a decision to make and you are not sure that you really know what is the right thing to do. You have a choice and one option seems very appealing, but, you might want to consider if this solution is one that will get you where you need to be in the long term.

AIR – 8 of Swords

This position focuses on mental aspects; attitudes and thoughts.

This card expresses that your mind is currently filled with thoughts that are holding you back. All your potential and abilities are not being exercised because your attitude is subconsciously telling you “you can’t”. Often, as it is with human nature, we will form self defeating excuses. It is our fear of failure that sets us up to find a reason why not to do something because of the failure factor, no one wants to fail, so any excuse to avoid it is the typical path, but not always the right path. There is a mental barrier, a thought of feeling that is holding you back and making you feel stuck. Here we see the emotions getting in the way of actions. These emotions do not allow you to use your skills to their full potential. The positive message in the card speaks of the answers & the solutions being within reach. You can see how to break free of the feelings that have a hold of you. You just need to take hold and strike, making that move, taking that first step to change the situation that you are currently in. This card is a bit of a summary of all the cards of the spread.

WATER – 8 of Pentacles

This position represents creative energies

This card expresses using your imagination. Not all things can be solved by reasoning and logic. There are sometimes situations that require a more creative approach. Using thoughts and ideas that are unconventional can be a better approach and can produce some really surprising & delightful results. This card also echoes the message in the Lovers card; seeing the beauty in all things. Much like the artist fey we see in the card. An artist starts out with a vision and begins to create that vision. Often the finished painting is not quite the same vision as when the artist started, yet, when the artist takes a step back and views their creation; they are pleased with what they have produced. This is a card about fresh ideas that work in your favor. You need to express these ideas, for presenting them is part of the creative process. Your thoughts & ideas are transformed into free flowing words painting a picture of real possibility and potential. Your words paint a beautiful picture and bring dreams to life.

SPIRIT – 4 of Wands

This position represents the spirit & soul within.

This card is a bit of a summary of all the cards of the spread. It is what is ahead of you when you work towards your full potential and purpose in life. It shows what is within you when you find that love and the joy in that love. It expresses a fun and trouble free life where everything is a celebration of some kind. The success in your life is filled with beauty and trinkets (trophies) of these accomplishments. Breaking free of what binds you and taking the path that brings you to that place of unconditional love and acceptance you will find that your soul will be filled with peace and tranquility. This is part of painting the picture of the life you want to live and the steps that are needed to reach this place of fun and free spiritedness. The tree is akin to the earthen fey in the Lovers card, where the foundation of this ‘celebration’ is deeply rooted and secure. The stones leading up to the tree also show that a good solid foundation has been laid down, and these stones are the path that is everlasting and true.

The cards all together express a need for change, a metamorphosis from within that then is expressed outwards for all to see and experience. He then starts to walk around the perfectly smooth stone. The stone is large and golden in color. It looks like a giant egg buried halfway into the ground. Estis runs his fingers over the smooth surface, admiring the stones golden hue. As he does so, his fingers feel a small indent. He stops to inspect the dimple in the stone. He pokes at it a bit and right before his eyes, a hole opens up in the stone. Estis looks into the depths of the hole and sees that there are stairs that lead down into the darkness.
Estis does not know fear, it is not an emotion that the Fey are aware of.
Estis enters the stone and makes his way down the steps, also smooth golden stone. The steps make their way down in a spiral that gets larger and larger. He begins to feel a bit awkward as he leaves the surface light and air. This is not an environment that he would want to stay in for very long.
At the moment that Estis thinks that he might turn around, a light appears.
His curiousity pushes him on. As he follows the stairs the light becomes brighter and bigger.
Estis nearly trips over his own steps when the stairs suddenly come to an end. Estis finds himself standing in a grand cavern. In the center of a cavern is an hourglass, upon the hourglass sits an old wise fey writing a list of some kind. Circled close about the Wise Fey is a large Dragon. The dragon notices Estis and looks at him with a green eye. Don't tell yourself that you will remember to do it when you get up for the day. If you wake from a dream in the middle of the night, wake up fully and write it down. An option to the initial documentation of the dream is to use a voice recorder. Later the dream can be put into written form.

Having your dreams in written form is important for a few reasons.
Writing the dream helps to recall, or relive the dream, thus more details are remembered that might have slipped through.
Another reason is for reference. Looking back at dream titles and subjects quickly helps to build your personal dream dictionary.

When you tell of your dream, tell it as it happens, in present tense.

For example-
I am sitting in the living room of a house I lived in over 5 years ago, but this is still my house now. It is night time and there are people I do not know in my house just hanging around.
I ask one of them
"Why do you think you can be here? Who told you to come into my house?"
I'm feeling irritated and frustrated. I do not want these strangers in my house.
I see some headlights coming down the driveway and I'm hoping that it is someone who will take these people out of here......

Be sure that you follow this method.
Key things to include in your tale are descriptions & feelings.
Think about the events in the dream and how they make you feel.
If the air has a certain color to it, make note. If you know in your dream that it is night time, but everything is lit up as if daytime, make note.
Can you feel the wind, rain, pet's fur?
Colors, numbers, anything that stands out in your dream, even if it is a picture on the wall in the background.
Details are important. This card represents the general energies surrounding the year; it is also a card to remind me of its message and advice.
The suit of Pentacles relates to the physical and material aspects of life. This could point to money or job related issues or it could be a matter of belongings or health.

Here we see a silly looking Fey, something akin to a court jester, chained to a large medallion, the pentacle. On the floor, within reach, is a key. This brings a question to mind, ‘why doesn’t the fey just use the key and get free?’

I can see a few possible connections with this card in my life. The most common for all of us is the need of employment in order to survive in society. I also have a bit of debt that I am struggling with.
I’m fortunate in that I’m not ‘chained’ to a job that I do not enjoy. In fact I very happy with the whole work environment. I’m also a bit of the clown of the team. The chain could possibly represent the fact that I have less time to myself than I used to with my old job. So I guess I’m a little bit more of a slave to the work, then again, I am a work-a-holic and don’t really mind it. Which brings me to the Fey’s expression. It is one that seems a bit blank. A content blah…..
The situation does not affect the Fey in a manner that calls for emotion, thought or action. Unlike the cards image, where this Fey is alone, I am not. My ‘Blahness’ could cause ripples at home.
The size of the pentacle could represent a few things as well. Going back to the subject of work, I work for a company that is going through a lot of changes and one of those is big growth. Technologies that are being developed as we speak is an area that we work with and the things that are coming available to us will allow the company to engineer new products as well a upgrade our current products. The company plan is to take it to a higher level and hand it off to someone else. The ‘team’ will receive part of the profits and then move on to start another company. Again I look to the chain as a symbol of keeping my ties to the company until that large reward in the end. The key is symbolic of answers and this represents that my answer, or rather solution (reward), is within reach, or in other words; obtainable. The key for the Fey is the Fey’s freedom, but I can’t, at this moment, see how this applies to my life. The size of the Pentacle also reflects a sizable inheritance that I am to receive. As a word of advice, this card is telling me to hold on to that money. Be locked to it. I should be very thoughtful about where that money goes and if it is completely necessary for me to release those funds.
It’s possible that there could be a hold on the inheritance and it will be a longer wait.
Overall, as advice, I see this card telling me to keep the budget tight.

In the background there are books & candles. The books, like the key, hold answers of a different kind.
This is knowledge and education as well as record-keeping. Again, this relates to my job. The company is educating me with knowledge that I need to operate more effectively for my position. I already keep records in my position, simple stuff but there is a lot of it.

Well that’s it for this round of the cards, but..….I have a part to go with this one coming next.
The 4 of Pentacles was a card drawn for the New Year and as it happens, my birthday very closely coincides with the New Year. So for a birthday card, a dear friend sent me an e-card from the Tarot of the Cat People deck. Next I’m going to look at this card and give my thoughts and reflections on it as well as how it works with the Fey card.

Fey for a Week

FEY For the week of Jan 18 to Jan 24
Past – Body = XIV Temperance
Present – Mind = 7 of Pentacles
Future – Spirit = Ace of Swords

Body-XIV Temperance
Knowing by listening to the body & giving it what it needs, be it food (balanced nourishment) or ‘professional’ attention. A nice long hot soak! I don’t have a bathtub, but there is a hot tub where I’m staying, there is also a Finnish Sauna & Tubs place close to my work. It’s interesting, the fish, this place has a fish pond. It’s been a while, I don’t know if there are torches. I suppose this card might suggest treating my self to a soak, while in connecting with my physical body to discover the body ’s needs.

Mind-7 of Pentacles
Money Tree! Money is an issue that is perpetually on my mind. The feeling from this card is quite the opposite of my usual feelings about money issues. I will be getting paid within this week, but times have been tough and I have already borrowed from the fourth coming paycheck. But I also got a nice raise ok’d last week, going into effect yesterday (last day of the pay-period). I also have a small but significant amount of money in the bank that should not be there. Hmmm….
Other money matters, I have an inheritance, more than enough to be totally out of debt then have an awesome shopping spree, but that won’t be until later. Things there are still going through the process and those things never have a definite date.
Even though I’m almost constantly figuring my finances, I don’t stress, but I can get a bit nervous. I also have my times of worry, yet I know from past experience that to worry only makes it worse. When I have not a care in a world about not having the $$$ to pay a bill; the money appears in some way, like a ‘long time no see’ friend who owes me $40.
What an interesting card for this position. I’m wondering what might happen this coming week.

Spirit-Ace of Swords
This is such a ‘ritual’ card. I have a tough time with ‘rituals’…I like the idea, but it that so much to do and so little time thing that seems to get in the way. I find it interesting the facial similarities between the Temperance Fey and the Ace of Swords Fey. They both have that Polynesian look to them. I see this Fey as making some sort of offering or sacrifice. It could be that the super hot sword is coming down to brand her. Heehee, I use a soldering iron at work, better be careful of burning my self. The Fey’s eyes glow red. Is this a reflection from the heat of the sword? Or is it their true color and she is just a creature of great passion? I am on who stands firm in my beliefs, not just spiritual but also personal opinions. I’m drawn to the pose of the Fey’s arms, it’s chalice like. Even more accurate a darbuka drum. I have always wanted one of these. Maybe I’ll find one I like and maybe playing it will be a ‘ritual’ that will slow me down a bit. Heehee- I can buy one with the money that falls off the money tree!

                          WEEK IN REVIEW
FEY -For the week of Jan 18 to Jan 24

The cards pulled for this week where also part of a collective study.
